Introduction
In 2024, Lena Gardens became the temporary home of Flora Gardens Primary School. Since then, we’ve successfully operated from this site, and now we’re looking to build on that success. We’re engaging with our school community to propose making Lena Gardens our permanent home. This move would provide long-term certainty for the school’s future and enable continued investment in improving facilities.
Why We Moved Temporarily to Lena Gardens
The original Flora Gardens Primary School building was in a condition beyond repair. After careful assessment, the Lena Gardens site was identified as a more suitable location to accommodate our school.
To support the temporary relocation, the Council invested over £1 million in refurbishing Lena Gardens, delivering:
- Extensive remodelling and refurbishment of internal spaces, including new flooring and redecorations
- Repairs to the building structure, external walls, fences, and play areas
- Upgrades to the heating system
- Installation of automated gates and CCTV
- Improvements to IT infrastructure
Enhancement works are ongoing, with planned upgrades to fencing, playgrounds, and further interior improvements.
Opportunities of Our New Site
Since moving to Lena Gardens, Flora Gardens Primary School has been able to offer richer, more engaging experiences across all areas of learning. The site has opened up new opportunities for creativity, collaboration, and community connections — helping every child to thrive.
Inspiring Outdoor Spaces
Our wraparound playground provides space for outdoor learning in a wide range of subjects. Children enjoy hands-on activities and ongoing environmental projects, including:
- A school garden where each class will cultivate and nurture its own vegetable patch with planned spring-term developments to expand our growing areas
- Dedicated sports zones in both KS1 and KS2 playgrounds for daily lunchtime sports activities
- Quiet areas where children can read, relax, or reflect
- A dedicated football area for KS2, encouraging teamwork and active play
These spaces promote wellbeing, curiosity, and a lifelong love of the outdoors.
Enhanced Indoor Learning Spaces
Inside, our facilities help children learn in exciting and innovative ways:
- A Sports & Events Hall featuring the Lü interactive system — a cutting-edge digital system that combines light, sound, and movement to make sport and learning more engaging and inclusive. Lü helps pupils develop coordination, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in a fun, immersive way.
- A dedicated Drama space for weekly KS2 Drama lessons, assemblies, and performances.
- A specialist Science Lab equipped for practical investigations, giving pupils space and resources to explore scientific ideas first-hand.
A Thriving Music and Arts Offer
Music continues to be a real focus at Flora Gardens:
- Weekly hour-long Music lessons for all pupils, delivered by the Tri-borough Music Hub
- String instrument teaching for Years 5 & 6
- Collaboration with The Bach Choir for Years 4 & 5, where they participate in singing workshops and termly performances in the local community
- Rocksteady sessions, where children form their own rock bands
- Choir and after-school instrument lessons every week
These experiences help pupils develop confidence, creativity, and a lifelong appreciation of music.
Collaboration and Enrichment
Our move to Lena Gardens has strengthened valuable local partnerships, including:
- Weekly swimming lessons for KS2 pupils at St Paul’s Girls’ School, ensuring Years 3–5 swim for one term each year
- Academic and musical collaborations with St Paul’s Girls’ School, including mentoring, after-school clubs, weekly reading mentors and a shared performance space for our annual Year 6 production
- Continued involvement with the Hammersmith & Fulham School Sports Association, including School Games events and our annual Summer Sports Fayre, led by our full-time PE Lead
A Nurturing Start in Early Years
Our EYFS area offers a spacious, purpose-built outdoor environment featuring:
- Separate extensive Nursery and Reception play areas, with both indoor and outdoor learning opportunities
- A shared outdoor nature space for exploration and discovery
- Equipment to build motor skills, including a climbing frame, seesaws, bikes, and scooters
This environment encourages active play, confidence, and independence from the very start of school life.
Connecting with Our Community
The Lena Gardens location has strengthened our role within the local community:
- Performances and events at local venues such as the Town Hall and Broadway
- Free cycling lessons provided by the local authority, promoting road safety and healthy lifestyles
- Educational visits to nearby sites, including the London Wetland Centre
- Fundraising and donation drives supporting local food banks and community causes
Together, these opportunities show how our move to Lena Gardens has transformed learning for our pupils — creating a vibrant, safe, and inspiring environment where every child can flourish.
Looking Ahead: Making Lena Gardens Our Permanent Home
Building on the success of our temporary relocation, we are now launching a local consultation with the school community to explore making Lena Gardens our permanent home.
Although a statutory consultation is not required, H&F and the Flora Gardens Primary School Governing Body have chosen to carry out a local consultation to gather feedback from parents/carers, students, and staff.
This consultation will run for three weeks, from XXXX to XXXX, and will be led by the Governing Body. The feedback collected will help inform the final decision by the H&F Education Service regarding the proposed permanent move, effective from 1 September 2026.
Feedback and contact
We welcome your views and encourage all members of our school community to take part in the consultation.
